SSC Junior Hindi Translator Syllabus and Exam Pattern 2016

Below is the exam pattern and syllabus of SSC Junior Hindi Translators (JHT), Hindi Pradhyapak, Sr. / Jr. Hindi Translator Examination. This syllabus is applicable to all posts of translators given above. The detailed structure of this exam as well as syllabus of each paper and section is provided here.

SSC Junior Hindi Translator Exam Pattern

SSC Jr. / Sr. Hindi Traslator / Pradhyapak Examination will consist of two parts:
SSC Part -I (Written Examination carrying 400 marks)
It consists of 2 papers of 200 marks each.
Paper 1. Objective test - (a). General Hindi - 100 marks
(b). General English - 100 marks
Paper 1 is conducted at 9.30 AM to 11.30 AM while paper 2 is conducted at 2.00 PM to 4.00 PM.Paper 2. Descriptive type (Conventional) test.
Part 2. Personality test/ Interview 100 marks

SSC Junior Hindi Translator Part I - Written Examination: The Written Examination consists of two papers.Paper I is objective Type and Paper II is Conventional Type. Both papers carry 200 marks each. Time allowed for each paper is 2 hours. Also negative marking of 0.25 marks for each wrong answer in Paper-I only is applicable.

SSC Junior Hindi Translator Part II- Personality Test/ Interview: Only those who qualify (secure the minimum qualifying marks in paper-I or part thereof and paper-II of the written examination) will be shortlisted for the Interview / Personality test. This test is of 100 Marks.
Candidates will be selected on the basis of their aggregate marks in the Written Examination and Interview.

SSC Hindi Translator Syllabus 

This syllabus is for all posts of SSC Junior Hindi Translators (in Subordinate Offices) and Hindi Pradhyapak (Central Hindi Training Institute) and Senior/Junior Translators in Ministry of Defence exam.
SSC Hindi Translator Paper-I Syllabus : It will be objective type and consists of two sections given below.
a) General Hindi : 100 marks
b) General English : 100 marks
Time duration - 2 hours.
Questions in this component will be designed to test candidate’s understanding and knowledge of Hindi & English Languages and will be based on Common Errors, Fill in the blanks (using verbs, preposition, articles etc.), Vocabulary, Grammar, sentence structure, synonyms, antonyms, sentence completion, correct use of words,  idioms and phrases etc.
Questions in this paper, are designed to test the candidates’ understanding of the languages (both Hindi and English) and literature, correct use of words,phrases and idioms and ability to write the languages correctly, precisely and effectively. The questions will be of degree level.

SSC Hindi Translator Paper-II Syllabus : It is of conventional type and of 2 hours duration.
Translation and Essay: 200 Marks
2 Essay
2 Passages
The paper will contain two passages of whom translation is to be done by the candidate. One passage for translation from Hindi to English and one passage for translation from English to Hindi. Also they have to write Essay each in Hindi and English which is to test the candidates’ translation skills and their ability to write as well as comprehend the two languages correctly, precisely and effectively.
The level of the paper will be consistent with the educational qualifications prescribed.

About SSC Hindi Translators Interview
The interview/personality test is structured in such a manner that the candidates’ interests, knowledge, various traits, aptitude, suitability etc. are probed among other things, through academic qualifications, experience, extra-curricular activities, general awareness/knowledge, depth of knowledge of the subjects studied (10+2 onwards), communicative skills and over-all personality etc.
Candidates called for interview/personality test have the option to converse either in Hindi or English language during the interview process.
1. All the candidates have to appear in both the papers mentioned above.
2. Answer Scripts for Paper II will be evaluated of only those candidates who attain a minimum qualifying standard in Paper-I as may be fixed by the Commission at its discretion.
3. Only those candidates who attain minimum qualifying standard in Part-I of the Examination, as may be fixed by the Commission at their discretion, will be eligible to be called for Personality Test/Interview.
Note: Sometimes, the Staff Selection Commission also holds similar type of examination for recruitment to the posts of Junior Hindi Translators in the Subordinate Offices of Government of India located all over the country. However there is some difference in scale of pay as well as other eligibility conditions, particularly the educational qualifications though the Scheme of Examination for this Examination is almost similar. Thus the applicants should not get confused and must go through the Notice of Examination issued by the Commission very carefully.
